What's actually happening here: you look at a photo and understand it instantly — the story, the mood, who these people might be. The computer doesn't. It produces a list of things it can measure, and that's all it has. Everything AI does next is built on top of that list.

That's also why AI gets things wrong in a very particular way: if something isn't in the list, it may as well not exist — and if the list says something incorrect, nothing downstream will notice. Try it on a photo you know well and see what it misses. That gap is the most useful thing on this page.
