How to Stay on Top of AI News in 10 Minutes a Day

AI news has a volume problem. Model launches, funding rounds, hot takes, doom threads, "this changes everything" — daily. Try to follow it all and it becomes a part-time job that makes you more anxious and no better informed.

The professionals who stay genuinely current don't consume more. They consume on purpose. Here's a ten-minute daily routine that keeps you ahead of 95% of your industry without eating your morning.

The Routine

Minutes 1–5: One curated page, not twelve feeds

The single biggest upgrade: replace algorithmic feeds with one curated source you scan top to bottom. Feeds optimise for your engagement; curators optimise for coverage. Scanning a finite page gives you the day's shape in minutes — and, crucially, an ending. Feeds never end; that's the trap.

We built Cocoon's AI News page for exactly this job: the day's AI and tech stories — agents, automation, LLMs, startups — curated daily onto one scannable page. Free, no signup, no infinite scroll.

Minutes 5–8: Read one item properly

Pick the single story most relevant to your work — not the loudest one — and actually read it. One story read beats ten headlines skimmed, because headlines inform conversations while stories inform decisions. Over a month, that's twenty-plus topics you genuinely understand.

Minutes 8–10: The "so what" note

One sentence, anywhere you keep notes: "Voice cloning is now free and instant — worth warning the finance team about payment-call verification." The note forces the translation from news to relevance, which is the entire point of following any of this. Most days the honest note is "nothing today affects us", and writing that is valuable too — it's what permission to ignore feels like.

The Three Filters That Keep It to Ten Minutes

Volume control is deciding, in advance, what you don't care about:

These three filters — plus a couple more — get a full treatment in Most AI News Is Noise. Here's How to Find the Signal.

What Falls Away (Deliberately)

No live-following launch events. No hot-take threads. No second AI newsletter "just in case". FOMO says more input equals more informed; in practice, anything genuinely important will still be important tomorrow — and will have been fact-checked by then. The ten-minute routine bets on that, and the bet always pays.

Make It a Streak

Same time daily, attached to an existing habit — with coffee, on the commute. Consistency beats depth here: ten minutes daily outperforms a two-hour catch-up binge on Sunday, for the same reason we make everywhere on this site — small daily reps compound (see Game-Sized Learning).

And if you're the informed one on a team, consider upgrading the whole team for the price of 15 minutes a week: Run a 15-Minute Weekly AI Briefing.

Tomorrow morning: today's page, with coffee. Ten minutes. Done.
