The Weekly Dashboard: Seven Numbers Every Owner Should See on Monday

There are two failure modes for business dashboards. The common one: none — the owner steers by bank balance and vibes. The sophisticated one: a 40-widget analytics wall that nobody has opened since the week it was built.

Both fail the same test. A dashboard exists to answer one question — "what needs my attention this week?" — and anything that doesn't serve that question is decoration. Seven numbers answer it for almost any small business. Here they are, with the honest definitions that make them mean something.

The Seven

1. Cash in bank (and weeks of cover)

The survival number, expressed usefully: not just the balance, but balance ÷ average weekly outflow. "11 weeks" communicates urgency in a way "LKR 2.4M" never does.

2. Money owed to you, aged

Total receivables, split: current / 30+ / 60+ days. The 60+ bucket is the one to read aloud in your Monday meeting — it has a way of shrinking when named weekly. (The chase system lives in the cash flow guide.)

3. Sales this week vs the 4-week average

Not vs last week (too noisy) — vs your own recent average, so you see drift, not wobble. One line, one trend arrow.

4. Pipeline that could close in 60 days

Rule for honesty: a deal counts only with a next step and a date attached. Pipelines rot when "sent a proposal in March" still counts as pipeline. The weekly review is what keeps it true.

5. Gross margin, rolling

The are-we-selling-profitably-or-just-busily number. Weekly precision isn't the point; direction is. A three-week slide is a pricing or delivery-cost conversation this month, not at year-end. (Definitions in the P&L guide.)

6. One delivery health number

Your business's heartbeat, whatever it is: on-time delivery rate, open ticket backlog, utilisation, order defect rate. The test of a good one: when it degrades, customers feel it within a fortnight. Pick exactly one.

7. One people signal

In a small team this can be as simple as a traffic light you set weekly: is anyone overloaded, blocked or quietly unhappy? It feels soft until the week it's the most important cell on the sheet.

Assembling It Without a Data Team

The old blocker was never knowing what to track — it was the ninety minutes of Monday copy-paste, which guaranteed abandonment by week six. The 2026 stack removes it:
